The Molecular Genetics Laboratory (MGL) opened in 1994 to extend the Foundation for Blood Research's (FBR's) interest in population screening into the rapidly developing field of DNA-based genetic testing. The MGL is involved in research to test the feasibility of DNA-based population screening protocols for genetic disorders such as cystic fibrosis (CF), and hereditary hemochromatosis.
The MGL offers an innovative, office-based screening approach which makes available to pregnant women and their partners a simple, inexpensive DNA-based test that will identify about 80% of couples who have a 1 in 4 risk of having a fetus affected with cystic fibrosis. For further information about MGL services, contact us by email, by phone at 1-800-639-8605, or use the address below.
