Physician Education Materials

Plasma Proteins Guide

Serum protein testing has been an integral, although under-utilized, part of clinical laboratory science for many years. As appreciation for the power of these measurements in clinical practice grows, so does a need for continuing education.

Through an educational grant from Dade Behring, Inc., FBR has developed this guide on serum protein analysis for day to day use by practitioners and laboratorians. This guide contains a distillation of the world's literature on the subject, is fully indexed, and is presented by a given disease state (Section I), as well as by individual proteins (Section II). It includes a CD with search capability.

Technical Bulletins - Fact Sheets - other informational materials

Published as needed, these announce the introduction of a new test, methodological change, or federal regulations relevant to FBR testing. These materials are periodically mailed to clients or may be requested from FBR Clinical Support Office.

PAMPHLETS

• Understanding Spina Bifida; Understanding Ventral Wall Defects; and Understanding Anencephaly -- a series of illustrated pamphlets which explain how these disorders develop, how they can be prenatally detected, and how their identification can be managed. Also available in Spanish.
• The AFP Profile -- an overview of how multiple marker testing is used to screen for fetal disorders (FBR lab clients only).
• Questions and Answers about Cotinine Testing -- explains how the measurement of cotinine, the major metabolite of nicotine, can be used as an aid in smoking cessation. This pamphlet includes a special reference to pregnant smokers (FBR lab clients only).
• Prenatal Screening for Cystic Fibrosis -- Questions and Answers -- describes for patients how this screening approach can help many couples find out if their unborn baby is at high risk of having cystic fibrosis.
