Anti-Phospholipid Antibodies Syndrome Panel (APS)

Cardiolipin (aCL) - Phosphatidylserine (aPL) IgG, IgM, and IgA antibodies against CL and PS by ELISA, Lupus-like Anticoagulant (LAC)

  • Coagulation screening assays: dilute Russell Viper Venom Test (dRVVT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT)

Prenatal Screening Laboratory

Specimen Required:
aCL and aPL: Serum: 2 mL
Room temperature or 4°C
LAC: Refer to Special Handling Requirements.
Days Test Set Up:
Run once per week
Analytic Time:

48 hours

Reference Values:

aCL and aPL: > 98 percentile = Elevated

Reported out in standardized units as IgG Phospholipid Level (GPL), IgM Phospholipid Level (MPL), IgA Phospholipid Level (APL).

LAC: < mean + 2SD = negative

CPT Code(s):

86147 X 3, 86148 X 3, 85613, 85730

Relevance

The presence of both phospholipid antibodies and LAC is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or lupus-like disease, arterial or venous thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, recurrent pregnancy loss, postnatal maternal complications, migraine headaches, cerebrovascular accident, transientischemic attack, or stroke.
