Cardiolipin (aCL) - Phosphatidylserine (aPL) IgG, IgM, and IgA antibodies against CL and PS by ELISA, Lupus-like Anticoagulant (LAC)


Specimen Required:

aCL and aPL: Serum: 2 mL

Room temperature or 4°C

LAC: Refer to Special Handling Requirements.

Days Test Set Up:

Run once per week

Analytic Time:

48 hours

Reference Values:

aCL and aPL: > 98 percentile = Elevated

Reported out in standardized units as
IgG Phospholipid Level (GPL),
IgM Phospholipid Level (MPL),
IgA Phospholipid Level (APL).

LAC: < mean + 2SD = negative

Relevance:

The presence of both phospholipid antibodies and LAC is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or lupus-like disease, arterial or venous thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, recurrent pregnancy loss, postnatal maternal complications, migraine headaches, cerebrovascular accident, transientischemic attack, or stroke.
