Cold precipitation under controlled conditions: serum and plasma must be drawn and separated at 37°C.


Specimen Required:

Serum/Plasma: Adult 4 mL,   Child 2 mL

Draw and centrifuge at 37°C; Refer to Special Handling Requirements

Relevance:

Cryoprotein testing should be ordered when cutaneous vasculitis is present, when cold sensitivity with cyanosis of digits, ears, and nose is seen, and also when cryoproteinemia is suspected.

Notes:

Immunofixation will be performed on any observed cryoprecipitate.
